theCoderSchool Opens McLean Location
Community-impact driven couple continues to expand across the D.C. area
October 29, 2021 // FranchiseMarketingSolutions // MCLEAN, Va. – theCoderSchool – whose motto is “Learn to code. Change the world.” – is opening a McLean location as the brand continues its expansion across Northern Virginia. The new school will be located at 1320 Old Chain Bridge Rd #170 and is set to open on October 30 for both in-person and virtual learning. Looking ahead, theCoderSchool has plans to open locations in Reston, Washington, D.C., and Bethesda.
The new McLean school will be the second location owned and operated by Chad and Ellen Hamel. The couple opened their first theCoderSchool in Ashburn two years ago and is ready to bring the kid’s coding school to Ellen’s hometown of McLean. The Ashburn location currently has over 150 students enrolled and is prepared to experience increased growth with their newest location. In addition, opening a location in McLean furthers the couple’s mission to give back and stay active within the community.
“McLean holds a special place in my heart, as I grew up there and graduated from Langley High School,” stated Ellen. “Both Chad and I always knew we wanted to give back and provide a service to our local community. For being outside a large metropolitan area, McLean really has a small-town feel. We are excited to bring theCoderSchool there and offer kids more learning opportunities.”
The Hamel’s live in Northern Virginia, with their two young boys on a small farm equipped with a variety of farm animals including alpacas. Outside of being local business owners, Chad works as a veterinarian, and Ellen is a nurse. Both are former college athletes and are therefore major supporters and sponsors of youth sports within their community, including hosting combination coding and soccer camps this past year. They also support other youth organizations in their community. This month they will be sponsoring Shocktober, a spooky fundraiser for the nonprofit, The Arc of Loudoun. The couple will offer a discount on tickets and donate 10% of TCS tuition each month to the nonprofit when people sign up for 2:1 code coaching sessions through Shocktober.
Founded by Hansel Lynn and incubated with the help of his best friend, Wayne Teng, theCoderSchool was built to provide children aged 7 to 18 years with a welcoming environment to develop computer programming skills. theCoderSchool uses a variety of platforms to teach many coding languages, such as HTML, CSS, Python, Javascript and more. Every Code Coaching lesson is customized with the help of trained Code Coaches® who use a 2-on-1 approach to teaching.
“The drive and passion that both Chad and Ellen have to give back to their local communities with theCoderSchool are incredible,” stated Lynn. “We always love when franchisees want to bring our services to their hometowns and know the Hamel’s will do great things in McLean as they have already proven this in Ashburn.”
